SMITH RIVER, Umpqua: Striped bass, trout, smallmouth bass, Chinook
Smith River is closed to all angling above Spencer Creek and Johnson Creek on the North Fork under permanent regulations beginning Sept 16 continuing through Nov 30.
Smallmouth bass and striped bass are being caught in the tidewater sections. Angling for bass has been good. There are no harvest limits on any bass in the Smith River. There is also good access for angling since the Smith River Road follows the mainstem most of the time. Last updated 9/16/26.

Please be aware Smith River below Sisters Creek and North Fork Smith below Bridge 10 are open for catch-and-release only for trout. Above these locations it is open for retention. Smith River will close to all angling above Spencer Creek under permanent regulations beginning September 16 through November 30.
