The mainstem will be closed to all harvest of wild spring Chinook including jacks. Hatchery fish are still able to be retained and there should be a decent run again this year. Chinook Angling is slow . Bass fishing is good. Shad are available in the lower sections and good numbers are being caught. Last updated 5/28/26
SMITH RIVER, Umpqua: striped bass (partially closed to all angling)
Please be aware that Upper Smith River above Spencer Creek and North Fork Smith rivers above Johnson cr. Bridge are open for catch-and-release only for trout.
Smallmouth bass and striped bass are being caught in the tidewater sections. There are no harvest limits on any bass in the Smith River. There is also good access for angling since the Smith River Road follows the mainstem for most of the time. Last updated 5/28/2026
