If you like a dry fly challenge, Hat's a good place to test your skills. I usually start the day nymphing and then, once the bugs get moving, switch tactics to target rising fish with small dries on light tippet. It's technical and it's hard but it's so much fun watching a fish gobble your perfectly presented fly. Several clients put all the pieces together and have been rewarded with hard to fool fish. GUIDE TIP: Pay attention to and understand different rise forms. The bugs you see may not be what the fish are eating.
The Yuba continues to fish well. The past few weeks have been a lot of fun. Less well known than the Lower Sac, the Yuba is a fun, dynamic river that's full of wild rainbows. Soon we'll start throwing dries, streamers and nymphs in the same day. Hoppers aren't too far off and provide fun top water action. If you're looking for a new experience give the Yuba a shot.
