Spring Forecast (March-May): Spring provides some of the best fishing of the year in Marysvale Canyon as trout wake up from winter sluggishness. Low elevation snow melt can make the river muddy at any time and may or may not raise the flow. Irrigation releases from Piute Reservoir generally begin in mid to late April and make fishing more difficult. Releases from Piute to Yuba Reservoir can happen at any time, so it's important to watch daily flows at www.sevierriver.org. Fishing is reasonable up to about 200 cfs - above that it gets more difficult. Focus your spring fishing efforts on whenever the flow is low and not muddy.
Left Fork Fire: The Left Fork Fire in 2022 and France Canyon Fire in 2025 burned heavily through the Upper Kanab Creek and Blubber Creek drainages. Summer rain storms wash large amounts of ash into the stream after these events, killing all fish in Upper Kanab Creek and Blubber Creek. The upper East Fork Sevier River, from Kanab Creek downstream to Tropic Reservoir, appears to have also suffered large losses of fish due to the ash flow. The East Fork and all tributaries upstream of Kanab Creek were unaffected by the fire and still have abundant trout. Access to Upper Kanab Creek and Blubber Creek may be limited due to ongoing safety issues from the fire.

Spring Forecast (April-May): Access opens up in mid to late April, although it may be earlier this year with the warmer weather. Spring fishing can be tough during runoff, but this usually subsides by late May or early June. Wild trout are abundant and should be feeding actively as temps warm up.
