Fisheries change, they cycle through ups and downs. If your annual go-to isn't fishing its best, a river that's not on your radar might offer a better experience. Our guides know what's fishing and what's not. A new river can also give you a chance to do something different, like throw dries or pull streamers. California's great because you have options and we're happy to talk with you about them when booking a trip.

If you like a dry fly challenge, Hat's a good place to test your skills. I usually start the day nymphing and then, once the bugs get moving, switch tactics to target rising fish with small dries on light tippet. It's technical and it's hard but it's so much fun watching a fish gobble your perfectly presented fly. Several clients put all the pieces together and have been rewarded with hard to fool fish. GUIDE TIP: Pay attention to and understand different rise forms. The bugs you see may not be what the fish are eating.
