Jun 17 RIGS Fly Shop

Happening Now: Flow has dropped on the main stem of the Gunnison River. We are seeing A LOT of =Salmon Fly activities at pleasure park area. Not so much on the surface yet but fish are happy eating subsurface bugs. Try a dry dropper rig with Salmon Fly adults up top and dropping the nymph underneath it. Water is still off colored caused by the Smith Fork but the fishing is on!

Most Productive: Dry dropper with Salmon Fly adult and their nymph as dropper. Nymphing with Stonefly patterns, mayfly nymphs and brighter flashy nymphs. Worms and bug stones would be the best combo.

Water Clarity: Gunny Green

Jun 09 Riffle and Rise Outfitters

The snowpack in the highcountry is finally melting and we are in major runoff in the Gunnison Valley. Well experience peak flows this month and see some very high water. The Gunnison County Sheriffs Department has closed both the Gunnison and Slate rivers as of June 7. See details on the blog. There are limited to no angling opportunities on the rivers and anglers should use extreme caution until the rivers settle down.

Happening Now: Fishing is Ok above Pleasure Park, the spring flow bump is about halfway done, the river will still be fishable, expect to see the water change over the next 10 days. With the warming weather, the North Fork of the Gunnison is too high to wade across. Access the river from the south side and fish upstream of the confluence. Fish are looking to feed and throwing large stonefly nymphs trailed with bright smaller flies should lead to some hookups.

Most Productive: Nymphing with Stonefly patterns, mayfly nymphs and brighter flashy nymphs. Worms and bug stones would be the best combo.

Water Clarity: Gunny Green
