OWYHEE RIVER (Lower): brown trout, hatchery rainbow trout
Flows from the dam are around 26 cfs. Anglers can check flows here.
Now that the water is cold and flows are low, smaller flies that imitate midges will probably be most effective. Nymphs and streamers can be productive between hatches. Casting spinners, and crankbaits is also effective.
Brown trout will be spawning throughout the fall and winter so please avoid wading and fishing in gravely areas to protect burried eggs and spawning fish.
ODFW is using a tagging study to evaluate brown trout distribution and movement in the Owyhee tailwater this year. If you catch a tagged fish please report it here.
tags can be left in the fish, just record the four digit number and report the river reach where you caught the fish. Last updated 1/28/2026
