Jun 07 FlyCast River Forecast

Difficulty: Intermediate

Fishing at the Pueblo tailwater has been great in recent days with stable flows, mild temps and increasing water clarity. While flows are low, you can expect them to hold fairly steady. Trout are stacking up in the deeper runs and pools, but will venture out into the more shallow runs and riffles in the late morning and afternoon. Nymphing will produce the best results. Start by fishing midge and baetis pupa/larva through the deep and slow water ensuring plenty of weight. As the day progresses and hatch activity materializes, lighten the load and focus on the mid to upper water columns with an emerger. Surface action has been great with an abundance of midge and BWOs. If you see trout actively rising, rig up a double or single dry fly and hit the slow water near the banks. Parachute Adams or Parachute BWOs as well as Griffiths Gnats have been a deadly combo. Fluorocarbon tippet will improve your odds as well given that these trout can often be picky when it comes to surface flies.

May 23 Steel City Anglers

Here at Steel City Anglers fly fishing isnt our occupation, its our passion. Our packages are designed to help the beginning fly angler share our enthusiasm. Fly fishing can be a complex endeavor; fly rod, reel, line, leaders, tippet, tools, vest, waders, boots and lots and lots of flies. Every guide trip includes use of any and all equipment needed to make your trip an adventure. All you need to bring is a pair of polarized sunglasses, meet your guide in the morning and hit the water. Well take care of everything else.

From urban jungle to high desert beauty you can find it all. The Arkansas River below Lake Pueblo is one of the best kept secrets in fly fishing. The Pueblo tail water runs through nine miles of public access river beginning with beautiful natural settings, plentiful wildlife and lots of room to move. This area includes a section of fly and lure only water. The river continues through downtown Pueblo where you can find urban fishing at its best. The levee system is the worlds longest artistic mural. Parking is abundant and even in the height of combat fishing you can always find a hole or two.
From the top to bottom (with the proper guide) abundant numbers of trophy trout live and thrive.

Pueblo gains its distinction not only as an incredible fishery but as the home of four Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. Guests not wishing to fish can find shopping in the historic union district, great food, hiking, biking, kayaking and entertainment year round. If youre staying overnight our clients receive discounts at Wyndham Microtel Inn & Suite. Theres always something happening in Pueblo.
And the best fly fishing around is ten minutes away.

When you think of going the extra mile for your client, prospect or key employee the answer for far too long has been golf. In todays business environment golf outings wont make you stand out. A fly fishing adventure will be something your guest will talk about for years.
Fly fishing is the personification of Colorado: scenic mountains, wildlife, outdoor recreation and adventure. Pueblo offers access to an incredible fishery just minutes away. Take your staff or potential client out for a day of fly fishing and have the opportunity to build a relationship on a deeper level than what you would normally experience in the board room. The conditions are more personal, more informal and more enjoyable. Bring some fun back into your business!
At Steel City Anglers, we can customize your trip to achieve your business goals; whether it be taking a group of associates out on a hosted fly fishing trip, providing a teamwork oriented fly fishing adventure for your staff, or guiding you and a client on the river, we can make it happen.
